VetPetNI — Keeping Pets Healthy

VetPetNI is a regulated online veterinary dispensary providing Northern Ireland pet owners with safe, convenient access to prescription medicines, veterinary diets, and essential pet care products — all supplied in full compliance with UK and EU regulations.

The implementation, in full of the Windsor Framework from the 1st January has created a significant gap in the Northern Ireland market for the delivery of online prescription medicines. As from the 1st January GB online dispensaries will no longer be able to ship to NI.

VSSCo has established an independent vet practice, VSSCo Vet Pracitce (VVP), which will trade and dispense online as VetPetNI. The goal of VetPet NI is:

      - Maintain legal and compliant access to veterinary medicines

      - Ensure Northern Ireland pet owners are not disadvantaged

      - Support practices whose clients may otherwise struggle to source prescribed items

This is a market response to regulation changes, not a commercial move to replace veterinary dispensing.

NB VVP is an independent Vet Practice which purchases product from VSSCo like any other vet practice. VVP will not receive preferential treatment and will be managed in line with the same policies and procedures as all other veterinary practices.

VetPetNI is an RCVS-registered online dispensary operated by VSSCo Vet Practice.

We supply:

POM-V prescription medicines

Prescription and veterinary diet foods

Selected veterinary medicines (POM-VPS / NFA-VPS)

Retail pet products to support ongoing pet health

All prescriptions are:

      - Uploaded by the pet owner

     - Reviewed and approved by registered veterinary surgeons

      - Supplied in full compliance with VMD regulations

When a client chooses to use VetPetNI:

1.The veterinary practice issues a written prescription (where applicable)

2.The client uploads this prescription at checkout

3.VetPetNI veterinary surgeons verify:

      -Product

      - Strength

      - Quantity

      - Validity (Pet information)

4.Only then is the order approved and dispensed

  • One prescription per order
  • Multiple items may be supplied for the same pet
  • No substitutions are made without a valid prescription
  • VSSCo Vet Practice trading as VetPetNI is a registered Internet Retailer of Veterinary Medicines
  • Registered with:

oVeterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD)

oRoyal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)

Item Legal Categories

  • POM‑V: Written prescription required
  • POM‑VPS / NFA‑VPS: Pet details required, no prescription needed
  •
  • All prescriptions are reviewed and approved by registered veterinary surgeons.
  • VSSCo Vet Practice is managed by Emma Myles who is SQP certified.

To provide reassurance, VetPetNI does not:

  • Diagnose or advise on treatment
  • Influence prescribing decisions
  • Replace in-practice dispensing
  • Accept returns of prescription medicines (in line with regulations)

Clinical responsibility always remains with the prescribing veterinary surgeon.

  • Controlled Drugs: We are currently looking into how this can be done.
  • Vet Administrated Drugs: Eg Librela, Cytopoint, Cartrophen are not currently listed on Vetpet.

VetPetNI can help by:

  • Providing a regulated supply route where clients request prescriptions
  • Supporting clients affected by post-Windsor Framework supply challenges
  • Reducing pressure on practices to source certain products
  • Maintaining continuity of care for long-term conditions

Practices remain fully in control of whether and how prescriptions are issued.

VSSCo values long-standing relationships with veterinary practices across Northern Ireland.

VetPetNI is:

  • Open to feedback
  • Transparent in operation
  • Focused on collaboration, not competition

We are happy to discuss:

  • How VetPetNI operates
  • Compliance processes
  • How we support shared clients

  • Quantity limited to treatment period; antimicrobials only for period of risk.
  • Prescriptions valid across EU; antimicrobial prescriptions valid for 5 days.
  • Products supplied under national law; vets must keep required records.

  • Practice can give the client a copy, send a copy to Vetpet via VSSCo, and retain a copy (for CDs we will need the original signed copy)

** Practices may use their own script templates if they wish; however, all scripts must comply with EU legislation to ensure that mutual customers receive the best possible experience.
